How Does Botox® & Dysport® Work?

Botox® and Dysport® are advanced forms of botulinum toxin type A. These injectables act as neuromodulators by severing communication between the nerves and muscle tissue. Once administered, the toxin gradually relaxes muscles to leave you looking as youthful and refreshed on the outside as you feel on the inside. Botox® and Dysport® also help slow the aging process by decreasing the formation of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions.

Am I a Good Candidate For Botox® or Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® are primarily used for deep dynamic wrinkles on the upper portion of the face. You may be a suitable candidate for one or both injectables if you’re bothered by crow’s feet, forehead lines, or unwanted brow furrows. Botulinum injections have a variety of cosmetic applications that can be beneficial for patients at different stages of aging.

Botulinum injections are best for wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements. Botox® and Dysport® may not be right for you if your lines and wrinkles are a result of sun-damaged skin. In these instances, Dr. Karolak may suggest dermal fillers and/or skin resurfacing procedures.

What Results Will I See After Botox® & Dysport®?

Results from botulinum injections can be seen fairly quickly. Although your individual circumstances may vary the outcome, most patients are able to see initial results in just 3-5 days. An optimal outcome will be noticeable in 1-2 weeks depending on the treatment area, the severity of your concerns, and the injectable chosen. Botox® and Dysport® can last upwards of 3-4 months when applied correctly by a skilled provider.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox® & Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® are considered no-downtime procedures. Directly after treatment, you may experience slight swelling, redness, and in some cases, bruising at or around the injection site. However, most patients are able to return to the majority of their day-to-day activities without restrictions. Makeup can be applied immediately following the procedure if desired.

How Long Does a Botox® & Dysport® Take?

All injection procedures are done in-office by Dr. Karolak himself to ensure an optimal outcome with minimal downtime. Prior to treatment, the area will be cleaned, marked, and in some cases numbed. The actual injection process typically takes 5-10 minutes allowing you to quickly get back to your regular routine.
