Tired of fine lines, uneven texture, or other signs of aging?

Fraxel® laser treatment is a powerful fractional laser resurfacing procedure that dramatically improves skin texture, tone, and overall appearance by stimulating your body’s natural healing process. At Karolak Facial Plastic Surgery, we use Fraxel® to help patients achieve smoother, more youthful-looking skin with remarkable results for sun damage, wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation issues.

Learn More About Fraxel®

Fraxel® is an FDA-cleared fractional laser system that delivers targeted laser energy to the skin in a precise, controlled pattern. The treatment works by creating thousands of tiny microscopic treatment zones in the skin, each surrounded by healthy, untreated tissue that promotes fast healing.

Fraxel® can effectively treat:

It’s particularly effective for facial rejuvenation but can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands.

Fraxel® delivers laser energy in a fractionated pattern that penetrates deep into the dermis while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. This creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger the body’s natural healing response, stimulating the production of fresh, healthy collagen and elastin.

As old, damaged skin cells are replaced with new ones, skin tone and texture improve dramatically. The depth and intensity of treatment can be customized based on your specific skin concerns and desired outcomes, making it a versatile solution for various skin types and conditions.

Good candidates for Fraxel® laser treatment are individuals with concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, acne scars, uneven skin tone, or rough skin texture who want significant improvement without invasive surgery.

Fraxel® works well for most skin types, though patients with darker skin tones require careful evaluation to minimize the risk of pigmentation changes. You should be in overall good health, have realistic expectations, and be committed to proper post-treatment care, including sun protection.

Fraxel® is not recommended for those who are pregnant, have active skin infections, have recently used Accutane, or have certain medical conditions.

During your consultation, a member of our team will assess your skin condition, discuss your aesthetic goals, and determine the appropriate Fraxel® treatment protocol for optimal results.

Fraxel® delivers progressive, natural-looking improvements that develop over several weeks to months following treatment. Initially, you may notice some immediate tightening, but the most dramatic results appear as new collagen forms over several months

Patients typically see smoother skin texture, reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evening out of skin tone and pigmentation, diminished acne scars, and an overall more radiant complexion. Most patients require a series of 3-5 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results, though this varies based on individual concerns and treatment goals. Results can last for years with proper skincare and sun protection, and many patients return for maintenance treatments to preserve their rejuvenated appearance.

A Fraxel® treatment session typically takes 20-45 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Before the procedure begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and left on for 30-60 minutes to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

During treatment, you’ll feel a warm, prickling sensation as the laser passes over your skin, but the numbing cream makes the procedure very tolerable for most patients. The Fraxel® handpiece also has a cooling tip that helps minimize discomfort. After the treatment is complete, a soothing ointment or post-treatment booster likePRP will be applied to your skin.

Fraxel® does involve some downtime, though it’s significantly less than traditional ablative laser treatments. Immediately after treatment, your skin will appear red and feel similar to a sunburn, with minor swelling. This initial redness and swelling typically peaks within the first 24 hours, and your skin will naturally exfoliate over 5-7 days.

Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 2-4 days, though you’ll need to avoid direct sun exposure, strenuous exercise, and certain skincare products during the healing period. You can wear mineral makeup after 24 hours to camouflage redness.

Following your post-treatment care instructions carefully, including gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and consistent sun protection, is essential for optimal results and to minimize the risk of complications.
